The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri, Ph.D., has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to attracting strategic investments across the energy value chain, stressing that sustained investment is fundamental to achieving global energy security.

In a statement issued by Nneamaka Okafor, Special Assistant on Media and Communication to the Minister, Lokpobiri made the remarks on the sidelines of the 17th International Energy Forum Ministerial Meeting (IEF17), co-hosted by Nigeria alongside Italy’s Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin. He highlighted Nigeria’s strategic position in the global energy market amid rising geopolitical tensions and growing concerns over energy supply security.

“Energy security begins with sustained investment, irrespective of the form of energy. Securing reliable and affordable energy supplies requires investments across the entire value chain, supported by infrastructure, technology, and strategic international partnerships,” Lokpobiri stated.

The minister noted that Nigeria’s abundant energy resources, expansive domestic market and strategic geographical position offer significant opportunities for investors seeking competitive returns and sustainable partnerships.

He emphasised that oil and gas remain critical to meeting current global energy demand, while investments in other energy sources present additional opportunities to diversify the energy mix and strengthen long-term energy security.

According to the statement, Lokpobiri used a dinner hosted during IEF17 to further promote Nigeria’s investment potential, engaging informally with international delegates and representatives from different countries to highlight opportunities in the country’s energy sector.

“The dinner provided another valuable opportunity to engage international stakeholders, showcase Nigeria’s investment potential, and encourage partnerships that will deliver mutual benefits. Nigeria is open for business and ready to work with serious investors,” he said.

Lokpobiri reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for investment through ongoing reforms, enhanced international cooperation and policies designed to unlock the country’s vast energy resources.

He maintained that Nigeria would continue to strengthen partnerships capable of stimulating economic growth, creating employment opportunities and delivering sustainable prosperity for Nigerians, while contributing meaningfully to global energy security.

The minister’s remarks underscored Nigeria’s drive to attract both domestic and international investors into its energy sector as the country seeks to maximise its natural resources, expand infrastructure and strengthen its position in the global energy market.
