Oseke sponsors Bill seeking to establish Federal College of Agriculture (Technical) Ogboinbiri
Honourable  Preye Oseke; member representing Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, says he has sponsored a Bill seeking to establish Federal College of Agriculture (Technical) Ogboinbiri in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.Â
According to a statement by the Lawmaker, the establishment bill seeks to correct the gross imbalance, in the distribution of 33 Colleges of Agriculture, out of which 14 are in the North Central, 5 in the North East and South-West. Also, 4 in the North-West and South-East , while only a paltry 1 exists in the South-South.Â
The development has been greeted by an outpouring of accolades across board, due to the inevitability of food as a basic necessity of life and the urgent need to develop Agricultural capacity in the Niger Delta in preparation for the post fossil fuel era.
The statement explained that the Federal lawmaker has sought to amend relevant sections of the National Commission for Nomadic Education Act.Â
It stressed, that the Act which originally has only nomadic pastoralists, is in view to include migrant fishermen, and the deployment of modern-day technologies in the education of nomads.Â
According to the lawmaker, when passed into law, fishermen in Bayelsa State and elsewhere will benefit from services rendered by the Commission, just like migrant herdsmen.
The statement added that both Bills were made public when the Clerk of the House of Representatives read their respective short titles, during plenary yesterday Thursday 25th November 2021.
