Diri Appoints New Governing Council for Niger Delta University
Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has approved the appointment of a new Governing Council for Niger Delta University (NDU), Wilberforce Island, Amassoma.
The newly constituted council is headed by renowned academic, Professor Steven Odiowei, who will serve as Chairman.
A statement issued by the state government listed other members of the council as Dr. Timi Johnson, Barrister (Mrs.) Biobelemoye Charles Onyema, mni, Professor Barclays Ayakoroma, Professor Francis Sikoki, Barrister Warmate Jones Idikio, and Dr. Ibilate Benson Dadigi.
Also serving on the council are the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Allen Agih, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Tombara Kingdom, and the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Professor Jonah Akekere.
The appointments are expected to strengthen the governance structure of the state-owned institution and enhance its capacity to deliver quality teaching, research, and community service.
Niger Delta University, established in 2000 and located at Wilberforce Island in Amassoma, is one of the leading higher institutions in the Niger Delta region. The university has continued to play a pivotal role in the training of skilled manpower and the promotion of academic excellence in Bayelsa State and beyond.
The new Governing Council is expected to provide strategic leadership and policy direction aimed at advancing the university’s vision and consolidating its achievements in tertiary education.
The appointments take immediate effect.
