Estate Surveyors Seek Stronger Professional Standards Amid Tax Reforms
The Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV), Akwa Ibom State Branch, has called on members to deepen their professional knowledge and uphold high ethical standards as Nigeria navigates ongoing tax reforms and fiscal transparency initiatives.
The Chairman of the institution in Akwa Ibom State, ESV Kufre Ufot, FNIVS, made the call at the 2026 Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD) Seminar organised by the institution in Uyo.
The seminar had as its theme, “Estate Surveying and Valuation Practice in the Era of Tax Reforms and Fiscal Transparency in Nigeria.”
Ufot said the seminar provided an opportunity for members to critically examine emerging issues affecting the profession, share experiences and acquire knowledge capable of improving their individual practices and strengthening the standing of the profession.
He urged participants to engage actively in the programme by asking questions, sharing professional experiences and applying the lessons learnt to their daily practices.
According to him, the quality of the profession’s contribution to Nigeria’s fiscal transparency agenda would not be measured by the certificates obtained at the end of the seminar, but by the integrity, competence and impact professionals demonstrate in their valuations, advisory assignments and interactions with clients and the public.
The chairman commended members for their impressive turnout, describing their participation as a demonstration of commitment to professional development.
He expressed optimism that the deliberations would be fruitful and that the outcome of the seminar would have a transformative impact on estate surveying and valuation practice in Akwa Ibom State and beyond.
Also speaking, the Chairman, Committee of Fellows, NIESV Akwa Ibom State, and Chairman of the occasion, ESV (Rtd.) Hon. Chief Sunny Udom, commended members for their passion and commitment to the profession.
Udom said the gathering provided an avenue for members to brainstorm, share knowledge and deepen their understanding of the ethics and responsibilities associated with estate surveying and valuation.
He advised members to take professional seminars and workshops seriously, noting that continuous participation in such programmes would upgrade their knowledge and practices and enable them to compete favourably with their counterparts across the globe.
Earlier, the President and Chairman of Council of NIESV, ESV Malam Bature Ali Muhammad, represented by the Chairman, Imo State Branch, ESV Dr. Jovita Nnametu, described estate surveyors and valuers as important stakeholders in nation-building.
He said estate surveyors and valuers were not merely technical experts but trusted partners in nation-building, guardians of credibility in the property market and contributors to a more transparent and equitable fiscal system.
He urged practitioners to remain committed to professional excellence, ethical conduct and continuous learning in order to effectively respond to the changing demands of the profession and the wider Nigerian economy.
