Tarabina, NSE Hail Gov. Diri’s Infrastructure Drive After Inspection of Key Projects
The Chairman of the Directorate for Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Hon. Engr. Ebiye Tarabina, Mcoren, has commended the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, for what he described as unprecedented infrastructural development across the state driven by sustainable policies and programmes.
Engr. Tarabina gave the commendation during a joint project inspection tour with the Chairman of the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), Bayelsa State Chapter, Engr. Jokori Eluanatein, and members of the association. The team inspected the ongoing Gas Turbine power project as well as the Angiama–Oporoma bridge and link roads connecting Otuan and Oporoma communities on Thursday, March 5, 2026.
Speaking to journalists after the inspection, Engr. Tarabina said the Prosperity Administration had turned Bayelsa State into a construction hub, adding that the scale of infrastructural development in the state was positioning Bayelsa as an emerging investment destination.
Commenting on the Gas Turbine power project, Tarabina noted that electricity remains a critical driver of development.
“Light is life,” he said, adding that once the project becomes operational, Bayelsans would enjoy uninterrupted power supply, which would in turn stimulate economic activities and boost the state’s economy.
On the Angiama–Oporoma bridge and the link roads to Otuan and Oporoma communities, the chairman explained that the project, when completed, would significantly enhance internal connectivity within the state and ease transportation challenges faced by residents of riverine communities.
Similarly, the Chairman of the Nigeria Society of Engineers, Bayelsa State Chapter, Engr. Jokori Eluanatein, said the inspection tour formed part of activities marking World Engineering Day, celebrated globally on March 4 each year to recognise the contributions of engineers to societal development.
Engr. Eluanatein commended Governor Douye Diri for what he described as a bold initiative in installing the Gas Turbine project aimed at providing stable electricity supply to Bayelsans.
He also lauded the Managing Director of the Bayelsa State Electricity Company Limited, Engr. Olice Kemenanabo, for his efforts in driving the power project, while equally commending Engr. Ebiye Tarabina and members of the Directorate for their dedication to effective project monitoring and supervision in the state.
Speaking further on the Angiama–Oporoma bridge project, an executive member of the NSE Bayelsa Chapter, Engr. Dr. Oseke, described the project as strategic to the overall development of the state.
According to him, the bridge forms part of the governor’s broader vision to connect the three senatorial districts of Bayelsa State.
Engr. Oseke disclosed that structural work on the bridge had reached about 90 per cent completion, noting that the right-of-way had been cleared while major structural components, including the slabs, had been completed.
He also commended the governor for initiating projects that would connect riverine communities to mainland Yenagoa, the state capital.
According to him, the projects also align with the blue economy concept, as improved road and bridge networks would enhance access across the waterways and riverine terrain of the state.
“With these projects, people will be able to travel to different parts of the state in a shorter time. Bayelsans will no longer be seen only as riverine people isolated by water,” he said.
In his remarks, the Managing Director of the Bayelsa State Electricity Company Limited, Engr. Olice Kemenanabo, commended Engr. Tarabina, members of the Directorate, and the leadership of the Nigeria Society of Engineers for the inspection visit.
He assured that the Gas Turbine project would soon become operational, bringing significant improvement to power supply in the state.
Others who accompanied the chairman on the inspection tour included the Secretary of the Directorate, Engr. Sampson Igodo, board members, and other officials.⁷
