The Rainbow Coalition led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, has moves to formally integrate loyalists of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara into its political structure ahead of the 2027 general elections, following the governor’s declaration of support for the coalition. �
The development followed Fubara’s public endorsement of the coalition, President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, and the governorship ambition of Kingsley Chinda. The governor also directed his supporters to align with the coalition, saying he had returned to his political family and urging them to support all candidates produced under the Rainbow Coalition. �
Niger Delta Herald reported that prominent Fubara loyalists, including former Special Adviser on Political Affairs, Darlington Orji, and former Commissioner for Transport, Collins Onunwo, have already rejoined Wike’s political camp. Their return is said to have encouraged coalition leaders to intensify efforts to bring in more members of the governor’s former political structure. �
Sources within the coalition indicated that a committee has been constituted to coordinate the integration process and facilitate the smooth absorption of Fubara’s supporters into the coalition’s political framework. The committee is expected to engage key stakeholders across the state and strengthen the coalition’s grassroots structure ahead of the 2027 elections. �
The report added that attention has also turned to other notable figures who worked closely with Fubara during the political crisis, including former Chief of Staff Edison Ehie and former Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, amid speculation that they could also join the coalition. However, there has been no official confirmation of such moves. �
