Bayelsa Queens were forced to settle for a goalless draw against Edo Queens in their final match of the 2025/26 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six, a result that handed the league title to Edo Queens at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on Sunday.

The Prosperity Girls entered the decisive encounter knowing that only a victory would secure the championship, while Edo Queens needed just a draw to emerge champions.
Determined to reclaim the title, Bayelsa Queens dominated large spells of the contest and created several scoring opportunities.

The biggest talking point came in the 23rd minute when Harmony Chidi appeared to have beaten Edo Queens goalkeeper Doris Ohia before being brought down inside the box. However, referee Peace Ogbonnaya from Anambra State waved play on, sparking protests from the Bayelsa Queens bench and supporters.

Bayelsa Queens continued to press for the breakthrough, but a combination of missed chances and resolute defending by Edo Queens ensured the match ended in a stalemate.

The draw was enough for Edo Queens to clinch their second NWFL Premiership title, placing them alongside Bayelsa Queens as the only clubs to have won the league twice within the last six seasons.

For Bayelsa Queens, the result was a bitter disappointment as they narrowly missed the opportunity to reclaim the league crown and secure a return to the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League qualifiers.

Speaking after the match, Bayelsa Queens head coach Whyte Ogbonda praised his players for their efforts but expressed frustration over some officiating decisions.

“Generally, the team has done well, but I must confess the referee did not help matters,” Ogbonda said.
Despite the setback, Bayelsa Queens concluded their campaign with a commendable performance and remain one of the dominant forces in Nigerian women’s football.
