Since 2020 when Senator Douye Diri, incumbent Governor of Bayelsa State came into office, there have been great stories of people-oriented policies, massive physical infrastructural development across sectors and building sustainable peace and security.
Testimonies abound regarding the positive trajectory of the Government of Assured Prosperity, with impacts on education, the health sector, road and bridge construction, sports development, youth and women empowerment, power generation, transportation, and, lately, the marine and blue economy.
Governor Diri, has continued to demonstrate purposeful leadership and a touch of excellence by bringing the people together towards the achievement of a collective aspiration of building a united and prosperous Bayelsa State.
The current administration has remained a champion of financial prudence, public accountability and transparency, hence, the recent national recognition as one of the leading states in budget implementation and performance and internal revenue generation.
There is no denying the fact that the current administration is purposeful and as such, it is connecting several riverine communities by roads and bridges as well as building legacy projects that will outlive the government.
The recent good news of steady electricity supply from the state-owned 60MW gas turbines, has opened the doors to more economic opportunities and industrialisation within Yenagoa and its environs. Truly, so much is happening under this government.
It is however, regrettable that certain uninformed and wicked youth have now gathered on the social media to disparage efforts of the government and de-market the state in the name of content creation. This is sad and clearly anti-development. It amounts to shame for a young Bayelsan to continue to share half information and a false narrative about the state. There are consequences for cyber-bullying, cyber stalking and the sharing of fake news. That law is already in effect.
Only recently, Governor Diri, made it clear that his administration is not averse to criticism but it must be done objectively by providing alternative views on how to get better. Just to reflect on the developmental strides in the state, have these content creators been to the New Yenagoa city? Have they seen the ongoing Glorydrive Phase 3 road with the Imgbi bridge? Have they visited the ongoing iconic 9-storey secretariat complex and the 30,000 Olympic-standard stadium in Igbogene?
A new Bayelsa is truly emerging in the recent past with the spirit of greater possibilities and not negative vibes from certain clout chasers in the name of content creation.
While it is easy to buy N100 worth of data and sit in your house to criticise, they must know that governance is not a tea party. Navigating public policy, managing state resources, and balancing tough choices in projects, and relentless execution require special administrative skills. That is where you give kudos to the current Governor, who after six years in office, is still working and delivering projects like a man seeking a second term in office.
On a lighter note and because of his towering achievements so far, many are even requesting a “3rd” term for him. Unfortunately, the 1999 Nigerian Constitution does not permit that.
While many agree that Bayelsa State might not be where it ought to be in terms of human and physical development, it has moved many steps forward in the journey of statehood.
The fact is unambiguous that the current administration has done so well and the people are acknowledging it from sector to sector. For the many positive impacts, it shows that Governor Diri, is dwelling in excellence with sound performance in office.
