The Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, CP Ajao Saka Adewale, has called on traditional rulers, youth leaders and Community Development Committees (CDCs) to collaborate with the Police to curb cult-related violence and prevent further loss of lives in the state.

Adewale made the call on Friday, October 9, 2026, during a security engagement with traditional rulers, youth leaders and CDC representatives in Yenagoa, following a recent wave of cult-related violence that has claimed lives in some communities.

The police commissioner described the situation as requiring a united and coordinated response, urging community leaders to work together to identify emerging security threats, discourage reprisal attacks and provide timely information to security agencies.
He stressed that traditional rulers, whom he described as the eyes of their communities, had a critical role to play in promoting peace and preventing the escalation of violence.

According to him, effective collaboration between the Police and community stakeholders would help protect lives, strengthen security and restore peace in affected communities.
During the meeting, traditional rulers, youth leaders and CDC representatives expressed concern over the security situation and called for increased police visibility and patrols in vulnerable areas.

They also appealed for adequate protection of residents who volunteer information to security agencies, while highlighting other security concerns requiring the attention of the Police and government.

Responding, Adewale assured the community leaders that their concerns would receive attention, emphasising the need for sustained communication and cooperation between the Police and local stakeholders.

He urged residents to report threats, suspicious movements and other security-related information promptly to enable the Police to intervene before situations deteriorate into violence.

The community leaders, in turn, expressed appreciation for the engagement and pledged to strengthen their collaboration with the Bayelsa State Police Command to combat cultism and prevent further loss of lives.

The Command also called on all parties to shun violence and reprisal attacks, urging residents to support lawful efforts to maintain peace and security across communities in Yenagoa.

The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Muhammed, ANIPR, FOOSI, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, Yenagoa.
