YENAGOA____The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag bearer for Bayelsa Central Senatorial District, Richard Akinaka, has called for divine guidance and protection ahead of the formal launch of his campaign.

Akinaka made the call during a mega praise event organised to thank God for his journey so far and commit the forthcoming campaign to His hands. The event was held at his campaign coordination office along Isaac Adaka Boro Expressway in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

He said the gathering was intended to acknowledge God’s faithfulness from the party’s validation process through the primaries and consultations, while seeking His intervention ahead of the campaign.

“From the party’s validation process to the primaries and our consultations, God has been with us. He has sustained us, provided for us and kept us safe,” Akinaka said.

He described the gathering as more than a religious formality, saying it was an opportunity to seek divine guidance before the campaign formally begins.

“This gathering is not a formality. It is a call to everyone who believes in the vision we are pursuing. Without God, our vision cannot be fully realised,” he said.

Akinaka said the campaign would involve travelling to communities and engaging with stakeholders, adding that divine protection and direction were essential throughout the process.

“We are here to praise God, acknowledge His faithfulness and commit this election to His hands,” he said.

The PDP candidate also cited Isaiah 45:1–2, expressing confidence that God would remove obstacles and guide his political journey.

He said the three-hour praise programme was part of preparations for the campaign tour across Yenagoa and Kolokuma/Opokuma, ahead of the formal campaign activities.

Akinaka urged supporters to participate with faith and unity, expressing hope that the campaign would end in victory.

Speaking at the event, Bayelsa State PDP Chairman, Mr George Turnah, said the party remained confident ahead of the 2027 elections, urging members and supporters to trust in God rather than be intimidated by the resources and political structures of their opponents.

“Our opponents may boast about their resources, their structures and everything they believe they need to win this political battle. But we are going into this contest in the name of the Lord of Hosts,” Turnah said.

Drawing a parallel with David’s confrontation with Goliath, he said the party’s confidence rested on its faith in God, adding that the 2027 electoral contest would ultimately be committed to divine guidance.

“The battle is not ours alone; it belongs to the Lord. As we look towards the 2027 election, we commit this political journey into God’s hands,” he said.

The mega praise and worship session was led by the Salvation Ministries choir, while Pastor Samson Iduate Salem of the ministry led the prayer of consecration.
