The people of Ikot Obio Nko Community in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area have appealed to security agencies and the state government following an attack by hoodlums on Ndikpo Grammar School.

In a press release jointly signed by the Acting Village Head, David Obio Jnr, and the Secretary, Mr. Godwin Edet Silas, the community explained that hoodlums recently invaded the school compound, attacked and injured the Vice Principal, Mr. Udosen, and also assaulted the compound master, Mr. Victor, who narrowly escaped death.

According to the statement, the attackers vandalized school facilities and allegedly demanded ransom before releasing the Vice Principal.

Speaking with journalists in Ikot Obio Nko Community, executive members of the community, including Mr. Iboro Sunday Silas (Chairman), Mr. Godwin Edet Silas (Secretary), Chief Victor Okon Akpan (Family Head, Nung Esua Obong), Chief Augustine Hanson Akpan (Family Head, Nung Edimoh), and Chief Ime Okon Essien (Family Head, Nung Essien Obom), expressed shock over the incident, describing it as unfortunate and disturbing.

They said the attack had thrown the entire community into fear and confusion.
In their words, “The activities of hoodlums have become alarming, as schools across the state are now being attacked.”

The community leaders called on the Ministry of Education, security agencies, and the state government to urgently intervene, apprehend the perpetrators, and ensure they are prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others.

They also appealed to the Ministry of Education and security agencies to closely monitor activities within schools and urged the government to fence the school premises to safeguard lives and property.

When contacted over the incident, the Principal of the school reportedly declined to comment, stating that she was newly posted to the school and could not speak to the media on the matter. Members of the community, however, accused her of showing a lukewarm attitude toward issues affecting the school.
