A Facebook user, Oputa Bilelama, has raised the alarm over an alleged military crackdown on residents of Biseni Community in Bayelsa State, calling on relevant authorities to urgently intervene to prevent further escalation of the crisis.

Bilelama made the appeal in a post shared on the Facebook group Bayelsa Breaking News, alleging that military personnel were deployed to the community in response to protests by residents demanding development.

Biseni Community is the hometown of the Chairman of Yenagoa Local Government Area.

In the post titled “Emergency Alert: Military Brutality and Injustice in Biseni Community,” Bilelama alleged that what began as a peaceful campaign by youths seeking development had degenerated into a crisis.

According to him, several youths from the community were arrested and remanded in prison for demanding development projects for the area.

He further alleged that rather than addressing the concerns raised by the community, two individuals identified as Briye Okorie and Chile Ebibulo Amoru reportedly facilitated the deployment of military personnel to Biseni, where women staging a peaceful protest were allegedly assaulted.

“The situation has escalated, with reports of destruction of property as military personnel allegedly used force to disperse protesting women and suppress community members,” he claimed.

Bilelama condemned what he described as the abuse of power and called for the immediate withdrawal of military personnel from the community.

He also demanded the unconditional release of the detained youths and urged the authorities to investigate the roles allegedly played by the named individuals in the crisis.

As of the time of filing this report, the Bayelsa State Government, the military authorities and the individuals mentioned in the allegations had not issued any official response.
