Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims that former President Goodluck Jonathan is contesting the 2027 presidential election, insisting that Jonathan has never informed him of any such ambition.

Speaking during his media chat in Port Harcourt the Capital of Rivers State on Saturday, Wike said reports projecting the former president as the presidential candidate of the Turaki-led camp were mere speculation, urging Nigerians to rely on the official list of candidates published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Responding to a question on his relationship with Jonathan amid reports of his adoption by the Turaki-led faction, Wike said, “I never heard President Jonathan say he is running for president. I always told you there are many people running 419 of different categories. I think INEC must have uploaded the candidates this morning, so go and check who is a candidate and who is not.”

The FCT minister stressed that his personal relationship with the former president remains intact despite the political speculation.

“I still have a good relationship with Mr President (Jonathan),” Wike said.
