Tarabina Inspects Ongoing Road Projects in Bayelsa, Urges Contractors to Adhere to Standards
The Chairman of the Bayelsa State Directorate for Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Hon. Engr. Ebiye Tarabina, has conducted an inspection of ongoing road construction projects in parts of the state to ensure strict compliance with contractual specifications and government standards.
During the inspection tour on Tuesday, Tarabina visited the Angiama/Eniwari/Fonibiri Road project as well as the Akaba/Okodi Road Phase One and Phase Two projects, where he assessed the level of work done and interacted with engineers and contractors handling the projects.
Speaking during the visit, the chairman emphasized the commitment of the Bayelsa State Government to delivering quality infrastructure that would improve connectivity, boost economic activities, and enhance the living conditions of residents in rural communities.
According to him, the inspection was aimed at ensuring that contractors execute projects in line with approved specifications, timelines, and contractual obligations.
At the Angiama/Eniwari/Fonibiri Road project site, Tarabina was informed that about 10 kilometres of the road corridor had been cleared, while approximately 5.5 kilometres had been sand-filled as construction progresses.
The inspection team also visited the Akaba/Okodi Road project, where Phase One, including the bridge component, has been completed. Work is currently ongoing on Phase Two, with contractors having cleared about 2.2 kilometres of the route, leaving only about 600 metres yet to be cleared. Sand-filling operations and culvert installations are also progressing steadily along the alignment.
Tarabina expressed satisfaction with the pace of work but urged contractors to maintain high standards of quality, professionalism, and efficiency to ensure the timely completion of the projects.
He reiterated the state government’s determination to monitor all ongoing projects across Bayelsa to guarantee value for public funds and ensure that communities benefit from durable infrastructure.
The chairman was accompanied on the inspection tour by the Secretary of the Directorate, Engr. Igodo Sampson, board members, engineers, and other officials of the agency. The team inspected critical sections of the projects and reviewed progress reports presented by the contractors and project supervisors.
The road projects are part of the Bayelsa State Government’s broader infrastructure development agenda aimed at opening up riverine and rural communities, improving transportation networks, and stimulating socio-economic growth across the state.
